Japanese Gardens Inspiration
Japanese gardens aim at recreating the emotional state one finds in nature through symbolically representing different scenes of wilderness. Instead of trying to copy a Japanese garden, I have attempted to redesign a garden observing two important aspects of Japanese Gardening: considering the owners most beloved natural settings and understanding the essential qualities of the landscape and local materials.
In Eastern tradition it is considered that monochrome ink painting reveals the truest nature of an object by focusing on its shape. Monochrome paintings affected the creation of black and white gardens i.e. zen gardens. Practicing monochrome painting is an exploration of both the nature of physical objects, as well as a poetic way of mapping and designing gardens.
