Agroforestry

Agroforestry considers the best possible way for plants to co-exist to both produce yield as well as maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Different plants interconnect and co-operate to add value in the garden beyond production.

Multileveled gardens can utilise the varied heights of plants to maximise benefits for the garden. For example, a simple olive grove can be transformed: Palm trees can co-exist with olive trees as their height difference and shape (including root shape) does not obstruct each other. Vines require sunlight to be healthy, thus, a trellis can be built for the vines to climb, creating, simultaneously, a beautiful path.

Acacias and other leguminous trees have a variety of benefits: They are fast growing, desert adapted and nitrogen fixers. Acacia is considered a good tree to break through tough alkaline soil, aerating the ground for other plants to grow.
